The Local Extra Newspaper began its journey in the seaside town of Seaspray. Known then as the “Seaspray Crier”, it was sold on to service the Gippsland City of Sale and Neighbouring Districts under the banner of “The Trading Guide”. When purchased by Liz Stevens, back in June 2006, the Newspaper took on its current name and form, to give it the independent identity it maintains today.

By July 2007, 3 separate Local Extra Newspapers were available in the Baw Baw, Latrobe and Wellington Shires. It was soon evident that to amalgamate all three would prove advantageous to everyone concerned. In July 2008, The Local Extra Newspaper’s first “Highway” Edition was printed, and has never looked back. By keeping advertising prices down and providing the newspaper FREE to the public, the Newspaper soon grew in popularity demanding bigger production runs and more distribution points.

In September 2010 Liz took on a partner with the intention of expanding the papers features, advertising and distribution. Mark Watson whose experience in tourism, marketing and advertising and passion for customer service, has bought with him some ideas to take the LOCAL EXTRA to the next level.

The LOCAL EXTRA is an independent newspaper which believes in:

Providing readers with quality local content, community information, ‘a good read’, tourism news and information.
Providing advertisers with an affordable advertising medium and personalised customer service where they deal with the person responsible.
Providing local communities with an opportunity to promote themselves to the wider Gippsland area.
