Baw Baw Shire is located in West Gippsland, approximately just over an hour from Melbourne. The shire is made up of over 100 localities spread over 3,855 square kilometres of rolling green hills, towns, mountains and top agricultural land.

Warragul is the shire's largest town with a population of over 10,000 people. Drouin is the second largest town with a population of just under 6,000 people.
